about

The Ambient Zone : Collection 001 comprises the first 10 releases from The Ambient Zone, the new specialist ambient track based imprint of Just Music (niche electronica label working for many years with artists such as Jon Hopkins, Marconi Union, Digitonal and Future Loop Foundation), together with a Continuous Mix of all 10 tracks.

The Ambient Zone selects and curates ambient music from across the full musical spectrum, releasing new ambient tracks and playlisting them alongside the very best existing ambient tracks in its Essential, Classics, Voyage and Balance Playlists with the intention that The Ambient Zone will become the pre-eminent destination and definitive home of ambient music online.

Best known for their track Weightless, acclaimed as a brilliant piece of ambient music and widely considered to be the most relaxing track in the world, the first track, Marconi Unions’ Slow Motion soars and spins, and has all of the compelling Marconi Union signature sound that has quietly whispered its way into the consciousness of ambient music lovers worldwide.

Slow, peaceful, round and warm, Berlin based renown Producer and DJ, Cord Labuhn’s Unter Deck (track two) is a deliciously teasing track which drifts and dazzles and disappears and comes back again - an artful and compelling hybrid, an organic blend of ambient electronica, guitars, synths, beats and interweaving melodies.

Following this, long time established classical composer and clarinetist, electronica and beats wizard Digitonal brings all his immense talent to creating the ultimate musical antidepressant journey in the uplifting and joyful Mirtazapine. Here his delicate clarinet playing moves subtly through a cool electronic space to create a track of great range and beauty.

Then we have Londoner Sam Brown bringing a fresh approach to music and the production creating an ‘otherworldly’ vibe. Magical and mesmeric ambient music with fairy dust - Burgundy charms and swirls - dance music for the angels.

What better after this than the lush, mellow, melodic and rapturous, Friday’s Child - exactly what you would expect from one of the grand masters of sunset music – tastemaker and one of the early pioneers of the ‘chill out’ scene on Ibiza and on the airwaves Chris Coco - music with inner and outer space, perfect for that sunset moment.

Next up, neither minimal nor dance, Lock occupies the space in between, the ambient calm of repetitiveness. A contemporary pairing from London, Ben Fehr & Liam Cutler pursue deep electronic sounds, modern textures alongside unconventional composition creating intensely rhythmic and melodic soundscapes.

A hypnotic interlude, Finnish electro jazz pioneers RinneRadio’s trance inducing washes of sound meet Nordic coolness in exciting and unprecedented ways that evoke prime Brian Eno and late-period Miles Davis in equal measure. Music in a magic grotto - where the early gentle breaths of clarinet swirl out of a bubbling spring to be joined in rapture by divine notes which bounce around the cave and float to heaven - Yasmin is uplifting and truly breathtaking.

Panoptican Blue then surrounds you in a halo of celestial wonder where the light glimpses and glints, the planets glide and glisten, and the music moves and marvel. Electronic duo Echaskech flirt with multiple influences ranging across techno, ambient, acid, classical and drum and bass, combining them into a unique and compelling amalgamation of sound.

Afterhere partner up 80’s electronic pioneer Glenn Gregory with composer and vocalist Berenice Scott to create the following track Sepia –which moves through the spheres and bathes you in its light, its warmth, it’s majesty. It juxtaposes energy with a calming ambience, gliding effortlessly though tranquil lavish synths, sublime strings and hypnotic vocals.

The penultimate track, Opdot’s Mollify is both mysterious and magnificent - a blanket of intriguing textures, movements, and soothing sounds shrouded in a musical mist. The key to Opdot’s quintessential sound is in the constant development of thematic material within classical structures and forms – the result, something utterly distinctive and quite extraordinary.

And finally a glorious continuous mix of all ten tracks…
